150 years of the Umdasch Group

shops magazine celebrates the world of retail. The magazine is published by Umdasch, one of the world’s most successful storemakers. With its finger firmly on the pulse, the bilingual English and German publication reports on the latest trends and developments. shops 150 focuses on the 150-year jubilee of the Austrian company and offers an exclusive glance behind the scenes. The concept was developed by typenraum, who were also in charge of editing and designing the magazine. As in years past, the communications agency typenraum is behind the magazine’s content and design. The agency has been working for umdasch “Store Makers” since 2013, developing and realizing the magazine concept.

This issue hinges on two clear leitmotifs: continuity and innovation – be it in the statement from CEO Silvio Kirchmair, which addresses the challenges the industry faces, or in the conversation with owners Hilde and Alfred Umdasch. The siblings offer very personal insights into their routes to success and explain why a good team lays the foundations for a profitable company. Representing the 1,400 colleagues working at umdasch the Store Makers, various staffers describe the highly committed contribution they make to the firm day-in day-out.

Outstanding Austrian artist André Heller talks about his amazing ideas and what erally counts at the end of the day; while world-renowned retail prophet Doug Stephens advises courage and creativity in times of digital transformation. The same goes for umdasch’s digital expert Bernd Albl, who knows how digital solutions can support the feel-good factor for consumers at the point of sale.

Harrods and the Umdasch Group share a similarly long history, one that clearly shows how important it is to always look to the future. shops reports exclusively on part one of the biggest renovation in the history of the Harrods’ Food Hall, the so-called “Taste Revolution”. And of course this issue also includes showcases on exciting umdasch reference projects such as those at Bosch, REWE, Golf House, INTERSPAR, Bulgari and Burberry.
