Apartment Buildings Andermatt – Val Val, Mona and “Urban Luxury in the Alps
In the heart of the Andermatt mountain landscape, an ensemble of three apartment buildings has been created for Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, with interiors designed by blocher partners. The buildings are tailored to different user groups while forming a coherent whole. The design is based on a clear and specific material and colour concept for each house, always referencing the alpine surroundings.
Val Val forms the starting point as a building for families. Light woods, durable surfaces, soft textiles and fresh colour accents shape the atmosphere. The interiors take up elements of the modern chalet and are designed both for everyday life in the mountains and for relaxing stays. Floor plans and furnishings support communal living and create a robust spatial structure for long-term use.
Mona adjoins it directly and continues the alpine character in a more nuanced way. Warm-toned oak, textured textiles, finely tuned shades of green and locally sourced natural stone define the appearance. Visible fracture edges of the stone reference the topography of the surrounding mountain landscape. Custom joinery solutions and shutters, reinterpreted as interior motifs, establish a link to the distinctive façade design and sharpen the identity of the building.
A contemporary offering for temporary and long-term living
The third building, developed under the working title “Urban Luxury in the Alps”, was realised as a deliberately cosmopolitan accent within the ensemble. High-quality materials such as travertine, marble, brushed metal and velvet fabrics are used with a clear geometric language and deliberate contrasts. Tactility and surface qualities structure the seven above-ground floors with a total area of around 2,000 square metres. With the completion of the third building, the ensemble comprises a total of 48 apartments. Shared amenities such as spa, sauna, fitness area and ski and bicycle storage complement the private retreats in all three buildings.
