Conversion and extension of a sport store — Zell am See, Austrai — 1,920 m² — 2024 — Sport Bründl GmbH

Bründl's new store in Zell am See

The new Bründl Areit Store in Zell am See, designed by the interior architects at blocher partners, is a sustainable combination of nature and functionality. The store at the AreitXpress valley station reflects both the sporty character of the company and the alpine surroundings.

The conversion and new build of a total of 1,920 square metres combines modern rental areas, generous storage space and atmospheric sports retail. The planning is characterised by a clear room layout that also creates atmosphere. Zoning through light lines and colour selection plays a particularly important role: the floors, for example, were partially coloured with the striking Bründl blue to visually highlight the rental area and provide customers with intuitive orientation. Additional orientation aids are provided by dynamic shapes and illuminated lettering that accompany customers on their journey through the store.
Natural materials were used throughout the store, reflecting the alpine charm of the location. The warm-looking spruce wood gives the shop a natural feel. The use of Rauris natural stone creates a further link to the local landscape and emphasises the environmentally conscious design. The choice of materials not only ensures an aesthetic effect, but also robustness and durability.

Depot extended into the mountain

The task presented the planners with particular challenges - especially due to the complex floor plan. The existing space had to be optimised for the different usage concepts such as the shop area, ski hire and depot. To this end, the ski depot was extended into the mountain to create additional capacity. This extension also enabled a clear separation between the areas that are heavily used due to the high customer frequency. The use of sound-absorbing materials such as Tektalan improves the acoustics and creates a pleasant atmosphere.

The Bründl store uses modern digital elements to improve the shopping experience. Screens are integrated at selected points in the store to display product information and current offers. A free-standing digital check-in area allows customers to rent or return their equipment quickly and conveniently. These digital touchpoints harmonise with the overall minimalist design strategy by being integrated in a functional but unobtrusive way.
