Mystical moorland
On the edges of the Teufelsmoor (Devil’s Moor) to the north of Bremen lies the village of Worpswede, a retreat long favoured by artists. This landscape of flat, windswept vistas, birch-lined country roads, and mystical forests of oak was featured in the paintings of Paula Modersohn-Becker, among others.
With an ensemble design at a scale typical of this locality, the architects embed the new hotel in the enchanted environment. The signature main building with its lobby, bar, and event rooms is complemented by three wings of hotel rooms. This gives rise to sheltered outdoor spaces that emphasize the natural surroundings. As a modern twist, the partially translucent and richly detailed façade – otherwise composed of brick and timber – references local materials and craft traditions.
