Reconstruction and redesign of the department store — O5.8, 68161 Mannheim, Germany — 15,000 m² — 2014 — engelhorn KGaA, Mannheim
House of brands
The creative repositioning of engelhorn Mode im Quadrat went hand in hand with the uptrading of the brand and an expansion of services in the entire house, emphasising the engelhorn image as the “house of brands“.
Approximately 15,000 square metres of sales space is divided into style areas and client types. Each level has its own atmosphere, which awakens the emotions by anticipating desires.
Less is more
The design departments on the fourth and fifth floor, respectively one for women, one for men, stand for the new philosophy of engelhorn. In a nutshell: be different, not comparable. Thanks to the interconnection of online and offline, engelhorn distinguishes itself as a future oriented multichannel retailer. Regarding the floors themselves, what applies is “Less is more“ rather than “More of the same“. The storeys are deliberately kept low-key. Everything is spacious, airy, open, suffused with light.
Prominently situated in the ground floor, engelhorn presents high-quality jewellery on 180 square metres within a light and feminine atmosphere. The collections are arranged in showcases, amongst others, that are reminiscent of the leading international department stores. Additionally, the products are also shown in different locations troughout the building – and in the neighbouring accessories store acc/ess which opened in 2007.
engelhorn also stands – thanks to several restaurants and bars – for culinary variety. Amongst them: the Michelin-starred restaurant Opus V. Opus – the Latin word for a work resulting from creative activity, for a successful composition – is a fitting name for the Opus V restaurant in Mannheim, with its unusual architecture, stylish interior and unique cuisine. The Nordic-looking atmosphere above the city rooftops is open, simple and minimal: Natural materials, lots of wood and open space create an unusual and relaxed environment.
