Expansion of a senior care building — Crailsheimer Straße 25, 91550 Dinkelsbühl, Germany — 2019 — Diakonisches Werk Dinkelsbühl-Wassertrüdingen e.V.
Living while connected to the outside world
The senior centre Stephanusheim in Dinkelsbühl is almost completely occupied which is why its sponsor, the Diakonische Werk Dinkelsbühl-Wassertrüdingen engaged blocher partners to expand the building.
The extended building with four full storeys and a set-back top floor gives space for around 90 additional care places, as well as office and conference rooms. The new construction blends in with the existing structure while expanding it. Additionally, the connected building ensemble creates a protected garden with view to the adjacent lake. The staggered façade surfaces enable diverse view connections with the surrounding landscape and enable living while staying connected to the outside world. Although parking spaces were increased to 45 spaces, green areas like the slope in the southeast of the terrain that is used as a toboggan run, remain.
